Otzi the ICEMAN

Otzi or Oetzi, also known as the Frozen Fritz, is the term given to the discovered mummy that was preserved since 3300 BC in a glacier of Otztal Alps, in the border of Austria and Italy. I fyou are an avid archeologist, Otzi is surely your idol. joke.

The mummy was discovered by German tourists, Helmut and Erika SImon, on September 19, 1991. Amazingly, Otzi was really well- preserved as it appeared to be just a modern corpse like those which were recently found in the region. Otzi is currently displayed at the South Tyrol Museum of Archeology in Bozen-Bolzano Italy.

The body of Otzi was brought under extensive studies and examinations which turned out into a conclusion that he was a 30-45 year ol man and approximately standing 160cm or 5'3".

He had 57 tatoos, as seen by the scientists as some of which were found on or near acupuncture points that coincide with modern points, used to treat symptoms of diseases. It was found out that Otzi has suffered from digestive parasites and osteoarthrosis. Scientists had the theory of having acupuncture as one of the early means of medicinal techniques.
